Changes after updating the software to Android 16
In addition to the update of the software to Android 16, some changes are also made to the existing functions. The following are some of the major changes after updating your device to Android 16.
This Help Guide does not describe all Android 16 features and functions. Some features, functions, settings, and elements of the screen design may differ from the content of this Help Guide after updating your device to Android 16.
Changes to items in the Settings menu
Some of the item names and their order in the Settings menu have been changed. This topic mainly explains items for which the operating procedures have changed.
Modes
The following item has been added to the Settings menu.
[Modes]
You can decide when to block notifications to help you concentrate in specific situations, such as while sleeping, working, or driving.
Find and tap as follows, and then tap the desired item to change the values.
[Settings] > [Modes]
Do Not Disturb: You can minimize notifications by only allowing the notifications you need.
Bedtime: You can set alarms, dim the screen, and block notifications.
Driving: You can block notifications so you can focus on driving.
Create your own mode: You can customize the Modes. Select an icon and enter a mode name.
Then, tap the following button and set the desired items.

Changes to Side sense
The following item has been removed.
[Settings] > [Operation & View] > [Side sense]
You can now use Side sense by performing the following operations.
Turning Side sense on or off

Find and tap as follows.
[Settings] > [System] > [Gestures] > [Side sense]

Tap the switch to enable or disable the function.

Viewing the Multitasking usage guides
In addition to Side sense, you can also view guides on how to use the Split-screen (multi-window) mode and the Pop-up window mode.
Find and tap as follows.
[Settings] > [System] > [Gestures] > [Side sense] > [View Multitasking usage guides]
Then, tap the desired item on the following screen.

Changes to the lock screen settings

You can now open the lock screen settings from the Home screen.
Touch and hold an empty area on the Home screen, and then tap the following.
[Wallpaper & style] > [Lock screen] > [More lock screen settings]
Mirroring the screen of your device on a supported TV
You can use the Screen mirroring feature to mirror the screen of your device on a TV or other large display without using a cable connection.
Wi-Fi Direct® technology creates a wireless connection between the two devices, so you can sit back and enjoy your favorite photos from the comfort of your couch. You can also use this feature to listen to music from your device using the TV’s speakers.
The Screen mirroring feature is now available from the Cast function in the Quick settings panel.
Make sure that your device is connected to a Wi-Fi® network in advance.

TV: Follow the instructions in the User guide of your TV to turn on the Screen mirroring function.

Your device: Swipe down twice from the top of the screen to open the Quick settings panel.

Swipe left or right to find the following function, and then tap it.
(Cast)Then, tap the following button.

If you cannot find the icon in the Quick settings panel, you can add it to the panel.
Tap the following icon.
(Edit)Then, touch and hold the following icon to move it to the upper part of the screen.

To stop screen mirroring between devices
Find and tap as follows in the Quick settings panel.
(Cast) > [Disconnect]

You can no longer cancel screen mirroring by performing the following operations.
Swipe down from the top of the screen, and then tap as follows.
(Expand more) > [Disconnect] > [OK]

[Settings] > [Device connection] > [Connection preferences] > [Screen mirroring]

This function can be used with TVs that support the Screen mirroring feature.

When using Screen mirroring, do not cover the Wi-Fi antenna area of your device.

When using Screen mirroring, the image quality may sometimes be negatively impacted if there is interference from other Wi-Fi networks.

You can also use the Screen mirroring feature from the Cast function in the Settings menu.
Find and tap as follows.
[Settings] > [Connected devices] > [Connection preferences] > [Cast]
Tap the following icon in the upper right of the screen.
(More)Mark the following checkbox.
[Enable wireless display]
Then, tap the device to which you want to connect.
Change in the method of checking the battery information
The following item has been removed.
[Settings] > [About phone] > [Battery information]
You can now check the battery information by performing the following operations.
Find and tap as follows.
[Settings] > [System] > [Device diagnostics] > [Component health] > [Battery status]
Other changes
Selections to set the SIM to be used for text messaging
The following item has been removed.
[Settings] > [Network & internet] > [SIMs] > [Texts] > [Ask every time]
Find and tap as follows.
[Settings] > [Network & internet] > [SIMs] > [Texts]
Then, select the SIM you want to use for text messaging.
Changes to the automatic app update settings
The following item has been removed.
[Settings] > [System] > [System updates] >
(More) > [Settings] > [Auto update apps]
To change the automatic app update settings, perform the following operations.

Find and tap the icon.

Tap the account icon, and then find and tap the auto update apps menu in the settings menu.

Select the preferred option.
